Today we had to decide on if we were going to do either a film project or a print project do some research to help us start a basic plan. After much though i decided to do a group of 4 print project because i believe i would find it more interesting and with the resources i have can make it fly by a lot smoother and easier than a film project. After this i began to look up images to help me find a basic layout i could base my magazine on and after a short time looking i fount one image that showed all the basic aspects of a front cover ( http://www.magforum.com/cover_diagram%20copy.jpg ). After looking at this image i began think of what i will need to add in this cover to make it look like a real magazine.
Factors of a magazine i will need to include are;
- Master head.
- Date line.
- Selling line.
- A main and sub cover line.
- Price tag.
I began to look for example magazines of all types. The Magazines i looked at were; Kerrang, Four Four Two, OK, Nuts and Cosmopolitan. After looking at these magazines i thought that depending in the type of audience that it wants to attract shuttle differences are made E.g. In Kerrang ( http://welovezoe.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/kerrang-avenged.jpg ) it gave a more “In your face” feel to it with all the Bold writing and Logos and bold Pictures when compared to Four Four Two ( http://e9.net/mg/ft0712.jpg ) which the layout and overall image and text is a bit more shuttle and laid out in a more presentable way compared to the Kerrang magazine which is all over the place and meant to cause an impact. They both seem to show basic similarities like having the magazine logo across the top and to have side cover lines, but both magazines show different ways of doing this. Kerrang use a more shuttle but still attractive way by keeping the text and size to basic standards but by having them in quiet a bold colour it contradicts and help improve awareness for that cover line. On the other hand the Four Four Two magazine showed to take the opposite approach by taking a whole side of the cover to show all the cover lines in one section of the whole page. Both magazines show a well thought out way of showing the cover lines across a magazine be it shuttle or space consuming they both give a decent amount of impact to the page.
Other ways these magazines show ways in difference is through the image that is shown in the page. A good example of this would be the difference in the images show on magazine types between “Nuts” ( http://www.ukpokerinfo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/nuts-poker.jpg ) and “OK”( http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com/images/2008/01/brit_OK_010908_03-thumb.jpg) . You can tel automaticlly te difference in audince that the magazines are trying to grab the intention of just by the image used. In the Nuts magazine a undressed women on the front cover witha few smaller images by the side of it. This image is assumingly aimed at young men around 20 to 30 years old.
